Which sources do AI assistants cite about physiotherapists in Sydney?

The clinics moved in front of the rankings sites. ChatGPT's most cited sources for Sydney physio questions are now clinics' own websites, with City Physio and Sydney Physio Clinic tied at the top and the rankings site bestinhood.com back in a tie for third. Perplexity leans on clinics too. Google AI Overviews returned so few answers in this category that its row is a signal rather than a ranking.

Measured 2026-09-08 · Second collection

Across 39 buying-journey prompts about physiotherapists that named Sydney, NSW or Australia, these are the sources each AI engine cited most in its answers. A citation is a source the engine actually linked in a response, which makes this list a map of who each engine trusts in this category right now.

Sample: 39 prompts, responses collected 2026-09-08 to 2026-09-08 (39 from ChatGPT, 39 from Perplexity, 18 from Google AI Overviews). Google AI Overviews has a lower response count because some prompts returned no AI Overview, and those are excluded from that engine's denominator. Excluded from citation counts: 22 prompts naming a specific business, per the TOP Score rules, and 71 prompts that stated no location, per the method. Percentages are the share of that engine's responses containing at least one citation of the domain. Ties: on ChatGPT, first place is shared at 11 citations by cityphysio.com.au and sydneyphysioclinic.com.au, and third place is a three-way tie at 8 citations between bestinhood.com, quayhealth.com.au and starworks.com.au. On Perplexity, first place is shared at 19 citations by bendandmend.com.au and sydney-sports-physio.com.au. On Google AI Overviews, first place is shared at 2 citations by physiofitness.com.au and sydneyphysioclinic.com.au, and third place is an eight-way tie at 1 citation.

This is the second collection for this category and the first covering all three engines. ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews were each collected on 2026-09-08 and are reported on their own rows, per the method. Engines are never averaged together on this site.

Small sample: Google AI Overviews. Only 16 of this category's prompts returned an AI Overview at all, and the top source there was cited twice. At that size the Google row should be read as a signal that the engine has not settled on sources for Sydney physiotherapy, not as a ranking. The ChatGPT and Perplexity rows rest on 37 responses each.

What the data says

Clinics that publish exercise guides and injury explainers now hold the front of this category on both ChatGPT and Perplexity, so the direct citation is not just contestable, it is being won. The finding that carries over is about the rankings sites themselves. bestinhood.com, whose count in the first collection rested entirely on a single listicle page, is still in ChatGPT's top tier at 21.6%, tied there with starworks.com.au, a paid-listing directory that markets AI visibility services and recurs across completely unrelated categories on this site (mortgage broking, personal injury, plumbing). Two members of that layer sharing third place is the pattern four described on the categories hub, showing up in one category at once. It's new, it's winning citations, and almost nobody in the categories it sits on knows it exists.

How to read this page

  • 1Citations are not mentions. This page measures which sources the engines link when they answer, not which businesses they name. Who gets named is the TOP Score, and it's measured separately.
  • 2Engines disagree, so we never pool them. Each engine is reported on its own row because an average hides a total absence on the engine your buyers actually use.
  • 3This is a measurement with a date on it. Models and retrieval change; a source moving between collections has not necessarily done anything. The method, cadence and limits are on the standard page.
  • 4Ties are shown alphabetically and single-page sources are named. Where sources tie on citations, the table orders them alphabetically and the tie is stated under it. A domain's count can rest on a single page, often a "best of" listicle, and that concentration is itself part of what this site measures, so where it's true of a listed source we say so. Domains are counted by exact hostname, so government subdomains count separately.
